In our commitment to uplift the Cocopah community, we are not just providing housing; we are nurturing a sense of belonging and empowering our tenants to thrive.
To encourage those members already living on the Reservation to remain and to encourage members now living off-reservation to return, the Tribe deemed it essential to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing for every tribal member. Additionally, to build up financial stability and to help strengthen pride in the Cocopah culture, it was also deemed important to transition tribal members from renting homes to owning homes
To meet these challenges, the Tribe created an independent organization Cocopah Indian Housing and Development (CIHAD). The company is managed by a policy Board of Commissioners.

Services
Maintenance Department
The Maintenance Department actively performs daily, monthly and annual basis maintenance and repair for our tenants. The department is mainly centered on preventative maintenance and tenant requested work orders primarily in the following areas such as electrical, plumbing, pest control, and construction.
Property Management
In response to the varying circumstances of Cocopah families, CIHAD has expanded over the years to offer several programs. Those programs now include single family and apartment rental homes for low and very low-income families and homeownership programs for families able to qualify for lender offered mortgages.
Construction Department
With the harsh desert climate in southern Arizona, home rehabilitation is an on-going necessity in order for CIHAD to maintain our stock of rental housing. While routine maintenance can be handled using NAHASDA funds, funds for major rehabilitation work must come from other sources.

No, CIHAD does not have emergency housing, but is welcome to fill out Low Rent and USDA applications located in the main lobby of CIHAD.

Yes, CIHAD does mail application please call the front office at 928-627-8863; Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and provide the mailing address to where you are requesting the applications to be mail to.
Can you apply for a rental if you have a previous balance with CIHAD?
Yes, you can apply after making payment in full or after making payments arrangements with CIHAD.

No , you don’t need to have children to apply for a rental, and one person is considered a family.
